Four-Level Assessment Approach
Level 1--Quickly test for the presence of a language disorder to determine whether a student qualifies for services by administering four of the most discriminating subtests of the CELF–4
Level 2--For more information about strengths and weaknesses or to further evaluate specific deficit areas, administer only one or two additional subtests to measure receptive and expressive language skills, language content, language structure, or language memory
Level 3--Determine critical clinical skills and behaviours that underlie a student's language disorder by administering supplementary subtests
Level 4--Evaluate a student's academic and social language learning needs in the classroom with the use of additional subtests; see the chart on page 10 for a list of subtests appropriate for each level
